Abstract:

Use of latent heat accumulators in masonry constructions to conserve energy.

Phase change materials in the chambers of perforated bricks can increase the heat capacity of the unit. Due to this, an additional storage of thermal energy can be achieved. The daily fluctuations of indoor temperatures can be reduced by such thermal storage, whereby more favorable climatic and physical conditions can be reached. Due to the storage of excess thermal energy during the day, the energy loss due to the cooling in the evening and night hours is effectively reduced. Since the room temperature caused by the thermal energy from the walls can be conserved till to the evening hours. This leads to a saving of heat energy.
