Abstract:

Member stability according to DIN EN 1993-1-1.

With regard to the upcoming national implementation of the Eurocodes as DIN EN versions the following paper presents design rules for member stability according to DIN EN 1993-1-1. After the survey of different design approaches and additions to imperfections of structural members, the equivalent member method (Level-1-formulae) will be systematically described and explained in detail. Parallels and differences in comparison to DIN 18800-2 are shown in the context of respective design rules. To place the focus on the basic essentials, this article concentrates on class 1 to 3 cross-sections. The application of the design rules is demonstrated by means of examples.
