Abstract:

This work presents a numerical parametric study on the resistance of cold‐formed stainless steel beam‐columns with lipped channel and sigma cross‐sections at elevated temperatures, considering different stainless steel grades, cross‐sections and members slenderness and bending moment diagrams. The beam‐columns fire resistance is obtained by geometrically and materially nonlinear analyses including imperfections, using the Finite Element software SAFIR, and compared with the ultimate load bearing capacity obtained through EN 1993‐1‐2:2005. It is concluded that the current calculation rules are not well adjusted, existing thus the need to develop more precise prescriptions.
