Abstract:

An extension of the Generalized Beam Theory to determinate plate shear lags

An extension of the GBT which includes membrane shear lags is introduced. After giving an overview of the basics and terminology of the shear rigid folded plate theory, the approach for the extension, including the implementation of kinematic shear corrections as well as additional warping degrees of freedom on secondary nodes, are shown. The modifications of the calculation of cross section values necessary therefore are described. The differential equation is solved by using power series which leads to a quasi-closed solution with indication of stiffness matrices and particulate solutions. As conclusion, comparisons with competing methods and experiments are presented.
