Abstract:

Twin precast concrete arch bridges over the Cieza river

This article describes the Viaduct over the Cieza river, situated on the ¨Cantábrico ? Meseta¨ dual carriageway. Section: ¨Torrelavega ? Aguilar de C a m p o o. Subsection: Corrales de Buelna (South) - Molledo. The viaduct is part of the main carriageway and is of the concrete arch bridge with upper deck type. In the last few years the amount of a rch bridges built in Spain has increased considerably. Even though these type of bridges are expensive structures and their construction is very time consuming, due to the ancillary equipment needed, it is obvious that their beauty and adaptation into the landscape makes them a very interesting type of structure. Compared to other bridges with similar characteristics, this bridge shows a more innovative construction process by using precast elements for both arch and deck.
