Notes

Galton Bridge is very similar in construction to Mythe Bridge which Telford had designed a few years earlier. It was originally built to take a main road over the new Smethwick Cutting on the Birmingham Canal. The bridge is still open to pedestrians, but closed to motor vehicles which now use a modern four-lane road some distance away.
