Aarhus is Denmark's second largest city and is located on the east coast of the Jutland Peninsula, 187 km northwest of Copenhagen. In Aarhus Frederiks Plads is currently under construction – a major project in which a new district is being built on an area of 48,500 m².
The new quarter with two 15 and 19 level buildings and several other buildings is being developed on the premises of the former maintenance facility of the Danish State Railway. The result will create a better connection between the new area and the city centre in the future.
12,000 m² for new apartments
In the buildings surrounding the new square, 35,000 m² will be available for commercial use and office space, 12,000 m² for apartments and 1,500 m² for shops.
The retaining walls of the Frederiks Plads excavation had to be stabilized by permanent anchors. Additionally, some of the existing construction and surrounding property had to be integrated into the excavation and be tied back as well. DSI supplied approx. 800 permanent strand anchors with a total length of about 20,000 m.
