Nephew of Etienne and Joseph de Montgolfier, inventors of the first hot air balloons.


Conducts experiments on iron cables that eventually permit him to use cables instead of chains for bridges.


Suspension bridge over the Rhone between Tain-l'Hermitage and Tournon: First suspended road bridge in France with 2 spans of 85 m and iron cables.
