Lieutenant in Royal Engineers in Wellington's army in Spain.

Beginning in 1815

Military/civil engineering in West Indies for a few years.

1835

Arrives Sydney with a unit of Royal Engineers.

1837

Appointed Colonial Engineer of New South Wales.
Starts ten-year construction of "Semi-Circular Quay".

1841 - 1846

As lieutenant-colonel, designs and supervisesconstruction of Victoria Barracks in Sydney.

1847

Leaves army to lead an unsuccessful attempt to establish new settlement in central Queensland.

1851

Member of Legislative Council of New South Wales.

1855

Surveyor-General of New South Wales.

1857

Fort Denison is finally completed to Barney Concept.
