Abstract:

Damage due to displaced tendons at the Iller River Bridge at Thanners and remedial measures.

After prestressing and grouting of the internal tendons of the Iller River Bridge at Thanners pronounced longitudinal cracking was observed on the deck soffit of the western superstructure. A comprehensive investigation of the structure found that the tendons or rather the tendon ducts of the bottom slab of the box girder had floated out of place during concreting of the damaged section.
Based on non-linear comparative calculations using the finiteelement method it was determined that the damage was relevant with regard to the overall resistance and serviceability of the affected deck which then required complex remedial measures for the bridge. This report provides information on the damage, the investigation, the cause of the damage, the comparative structural analysis as well as the actual repair procedures.
