Abstract:

The Windelbach viaduct - Renewal with an innovative assembly method.

40 years after its construction, the 302 m long Windelbach viaduct undergoes repairs, which requires a renewal of the superstructure on to be rehabilitated pillars. At this a modern composite-steel-superstructure replaces the existing prestressed concrete beams. Due to the topographical conditions and the conditions for maintaining a 4+0 traffic an innovative assembly method with heavy-duty rail-trolleys to mount the new composite steel boxes and removal of existing prestressed concrete beams has been developed (fig. 1).
