Abstract:

From Biebrich into the whole world - A study on the diffusion of Zeiss-Dywidag shell construction until the end of the Second World War

Zeiss-Dywidag shell construction forms an integral part of the international historiography of structural engineering. Its fundamental importance for the worldwide dissemination of thin concrete shell constructions, however, still awaits an adequate examination. The following article is a first attempt to trace the enormous knowledge transfer that accompanied the diffusion of this construction method and its underlying theories over four continents.
