Abstract:

A continuum approach for determining the vibration of cable-stayed bridges under the passage of moving vehicle is presented and the responses are analysed for a parametric study. The analysis is performed in time domain and it duly considers the effects of flexibility of towers, interaction between the vehicle and the bridge pavement, coupling of vertical and torsional motion of the deck due to eccentrically placed vehicles and the randomness of the bridge surface irregularity. The results help to understand the influence of some important bridge and vehicle parameters on the dynamic behaviour of a cable-stayed bridge.
