Abstract:

Use of an innovative joint system for finger joint systems. Examples: Bridges Jan Blankenbrug and Martinus Nijhoffbrug (NL)

Finger joints have been used as expansion joints on bridges for decades. The finger shape reduces sound emissions and provides excellent rider comfort as vehicles cross of these kinds of expansion joints. A new anchorage method which transfers the force from the finger directly into the bridge structure was applied on these bridges in the Netherlands and is presented in this paper. This is the first application of this type of joint in Western Europe.
