Abstract:

Studies on the timber corrosion of historic glued laminated timber

This article presents studies on historic glued laminated timber with special reference to the effect of chemically aggressive media.
Subject of the investigation was an almost 100 year old salt warehouse in Hetzer's construction method. Strength tests in the dynstat-procedure as well as chemical investigations on the salinity were carried out.
As a result of the effect of the salt the investigated material clearly shows superficial, macroscopic alteration as well as a reduction of the strength in the outer cross sections.
