Abstract:

Rio 2016.

If you can't make it to the Olympics as an athlete, then maybe you should try engineering. There's no medals to be won, but the most important thing is to take part. That "our" Maracanã Stadium would play a major role at the Olympics goes without saying, but the fact that we would end up being part of the team to plan the opening and closing ceremonies went well beyond our expectations, opening up a very different field of engineering. Even the planning for the (in large parts) temporary tennis and swimming facilities revealed a host of new perspectives and challenges. Altogether, it was a very exciting time with beautiful games.
