Abstract:

Ultra-high-performance fibre-reinforced concrete footbridge over the Ovejas Ravine (Alicante)

The footbridge over the Ovejas Ravine forms part of the «Project for the improvement of environmental conditions of the Ovejas Ravine from kilometre point 0 + 457 up to its outlet. Alicante». The 42.81-metre span truss footbridge, made only of Ultra-High-Performance Fiber-Reinforced Concrete, has replaced a previous steel design with similar production costs and weight, and also with improved durability and fewer maintenance costs. The footbridge consists of 2 lateral modified Warren trusses of variable depth, connected at their bottom by another X-shaped truss, and by a 3-m wide deck at an intermediate position. The most important aspects related to the design and manufacturing process of this footbridge, which has become the first truss footbridge made only of Ultra-High-Performance Fiber-Reinforced Concrete in the world, are presented.
