The new Rhine Bridge Wiesbaden-Schierstein, Germany - Competition and Design.The underestimated, existing Rhine Bridge Wiesbaden-Schierstein was the watershed between static and erection optimization. The winner of the design competition in 2007 for a new Rhine Bridge between Wiesbaden and Mainz confirms the basic design and construction ideas of the former engineers. His design gathers experience of maintenance and retrofitting of the older bridge. The article describes the main steps of design, construction and retrofitting of the older bridge, need and tender design of a new bridge. |
