Abstract:

A competition was organised in 1989/1990 to seek a new architectural concept for the replacement of the old Lucerne Culture and Congress Centre, located on the shore of Lake Lucerne. The most outstanding feature of the winning proposal was a roof with a spectacular cantilever reaching out over the lake. The original design was subsequently modified taking into account new requirements. The detailed design works started in 1992. The structural works for the roof were finished in the same year, and construction of the entire building was completed in February 1999.
