Abstract:

Frei Otto - Lightweight roofs for a modern world.

With his suggestions and buildings Frei Otto presented the world a universe of ideas that has no equal. He is the great pioneer of lightweight structures in the 20th century. Due to its remarkable achievements in natural and fundamental research, in science and education, in architecture and structural engineering, in culture and technology, he joins the ranks of such internationally-renowned public characters as Félix Candela, Pier Luigi Nervi, Antoni Gaudí and Gustave Eiffel. On May 15th 2015 he posthumously is awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize in Miami Beach, USA, often referred to as Nobel Prize of Architecture.
