Abstract:

Discriminant analysis for an effective design of standardised anchor plates

Anchor plates with headed studs are often used in large-scale projects like power plant constructions in a standardised way and in immense quantities. Such often repeated and complex design tasks can be effectively accomplished with the stochastic procedure of the discriminant analysis. The contribution focuses on fundamentals, elaborations and finally the combination of anchor plate design with standardised design charts and the discriminant analysis. Doing so, combinations of sectional forces are assigned to suitable types of anchor plates using sampling procedures to generate the initial data, discriminant functions and numerical optimisation methods within a spreadsheet environment. Examples illustrate the practical applications.
