Abstract:

A structure in motion - The Metro Station Mendelssohn Bartholdy Park.

The Berlin Metro Station Mendelssohn-Bartholdy-Park is being overbuilt by a 14-storey building of which the construction pits are situated very close to the existing platform bridges of the station. The construction measures lead to ground movements that have an effect on the foundations of the station and its bridges. In order to secure the structural integrity and the traffic safety of the eastern platform bridge an adjustable support structure has been designed. This article reports on the planning and execution of this structure as well as the permanent monitoring of the station over the whole construction period.
