Abstract:

Conditioning of a Levante's quay section for twelve meters draught ships berth. Valencia Autonomous Port

This paper describes the structural solution and constructive process of enlarging water depth works in a 444 metres section of the Levante quay, in the Valencia autonomous Port. The solution consisted in to erect isolated columns eleven metres out of the sea in relation to the old ledge, jointing its with strong beams, and, on the other hand, to pull down and reconstruct the old quay upper block, a ribbed plate resting on these two structural elements. This structure supports high specific loads, in addition to the travelling crane and railway rails, and allows to enlarge the depth of water from nine to twelve metres.
