Abstract:

The geometry management of high-rise pylon becomes more difficult than the general pylon due to the accumulation of error in proportion to distances from EDM to the control point, the effect of the weather, the error of angle measurement due to enlargement of collimation angle and so on.

Management of shape and perpendicularity of pylon is essential to safety of the structure. As for long span sea crossing bridge, different supplementary control points is taken as reference on the starting and end point of bridge, leaving possibility for errors between control points. In this paper, observation of error in the use of electronic distance measurement devices(EDM) and supplementary control points at the site of Yi Sun-sin bridge is made. Then, applicability of GPS is proposed as an alternative, especially for the high-rise pylon under construction with slip form system.
