Abstract:

With current design practice of footbridges (intensive use of lightweight materials and long spans), high vibration levels become a growing problem which leads to increasing complaints.

This paper describes the vibration mitigation of the Ceramique footbridge (Maastricht, NL) using passive Tuned Mass Dampers (TMD), which artificially bring damping to the structure.
