A total of 3 pylons up to 125 m high carry the new bridge in North-West England which spans around 1,000 m over the River Mersey. Together with the two approach bridges, the Mersey Gateway Bridge is 2,130 m long. The project-specific self-climbing formwork from PERI ensured crane-free working operations, in all weather conditions.

PERI’s planning also took into consideration the cost-effective use of materials: The SB Brace Frames were used for bracket-type pylon extensions as well as the pier heads on the foreland bridges.

The on-site PERI project manager provided continuous support to ensure efficient execution of the planned formwork and scaffolding solution.

With horizontally-positioned SB Brace Frame Units, generously-sized working levels were realized; in addition, they facilitated the load transfer of the cantilevered concreting sections above into the pylon shaft.

As external formwork for the upper shaft, the ACS R Self-Climbing System was used together with VARIO GT 24 Girder Wall Formwork; in the process, the wall formwork was suspended from the top working platform. Thanks to this special construction, the formwork could be retracted as well as allowing the working platform to be folded upwards. Materials and PERI UP Flex Reinforcement Scaffold could subsequently be brought in from above.
