Notes

The project has been divided into 28 Segments of Independent Utility (SIU). SIU #1 and #2 encompass the existing I-69 from Port Huron to Indianapolis, while the only SIU that is currently under construction is #10 in northern Mississippi. Most of I-69 in Kentucky (SIU 5 and 6) will be routed over existing expressways, once spot improvements and safety upgrades are accomplished. A new bridge will cross the Ohio River at Evansville (SIU 4) and use the existing I-164 expressway east of the city.

Planning is currently on-going to extend the interstate all the way through Arkansas, Mississippi and Texas to the Mexican border. Federal legislation has established High Priority Corridors 18 and 20, which will extend I-69 south from Indianapolis to Brownsville. The proposed route will pass through Evansville, IN; Memphis, TN; Shreveport, LA; and Houston, TX.
