Abstract:

Glass establishes its use as a real structural material in engineering. Although the first glass–metal domes benefited from the stiffening of the glass panes, only today is glass used as a real structural element by engineers. Examples of free form glass domes, cable net walls, glass beams, glass fins and glass columns demonstrate what is possible with glass today.
