Abstract:

Presents the results of a reader's survey made to commemorate the tenth anniversary of SEI, through the IABSE website. Five bridges and five buildings comprise the 10 highest ranked structures. The top three structures are all record span bridges with the Normandie Bridge receiving the highest number of votes. The top three are followed by three structures that all received almost the same number of votes: the Guggenheim Museum, the Sunniberg Bridge and the Petronas Twin Towers. A third group of four structures completes the top ten: the Baha'i House of Worship, the Culture and Congress Centre Lucerne, the Millennium Dome, and the Marian Bridge. The 10 structures that received the most votes are discussed. Following a brief introduction, the merits of each structure are presented as a Laudation based on the comments of the voters. Characteristics of the structures are also discussed.
