Abstract:

Technical possibilities for load tests of concrete and masonry bridges.

The experimental safety evaluation of existing concrete and masonry bridges is discussed. There are different technical methods for generating test loads in situ: the utilization of hydraulic actuators and reaction frames, the application of the loading vehicle BELFA, and the measurement of the structural response during vehicle crossing. For each of the three methods, an application example is presented. The technical characteristics and the limitations of the methods are compared.
