Abstract:

Reconditioning of the corrosion protection coating of steel railway bridges as really needed.

The railway bridge crossing the Inn near Braunau, the new generation of auxiliary bridges of the ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG and the railway bridge called Nußdorfer Schleusenwerke have in spite of different steel structures, different age of structure and different purpose of use one global similarity. All three are steel bridge structures which need coating systems to achieve their planned service life. In all three cases there are no really useful standards to determine an efficient, purposeful and low-cost solution.
Based on these three samples this paper will show a way the ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG went to dedicate a solution combining the really good contents of the existing standards with models for degradation including boundary conditions as environment and structural steel details. At the end there should be the right action at the right time.
