Abstract:

The Messina Strait Bridge will hold the record for the longest single span suspension bridge in the world. The Messina Strait crossing is a dream and it has become true since the 80s with the first specific studies for a fixed link across the Strait. This paper deals with the very recent history of the design, describing the complex technical, administrative and financial organization which lays behind such a huge project.
