Abstract:

The William R. Bennett Bridge is a new floating bridge across Okanagan Lake in British Columbia, Canada that will replace an existing aging structure. There are several characteristics that make this project unique. The new bridge has floating and fixed sections with complex structural interaction. The floating section has an elevated deck, which was cast while floating and while the pontoon- string assembly was ongoing, thus requiring constant monitoring and ballasting modifications.

These challenges have been overcome with innovative thinking and close coordination between the design and construction teams that comprise the W. R. Bennett Bridge Group.
