Important Changes on Structurae in July 2014

On July 28th we officially launched Version 6.5 of Structurae. Here are the most important changes that we made:

New Structurae homepage

New Homepage

The Structurae homepage was completely redesigned using a fancy new layout. The goal of the new page is to better show the breadth of all that Structurae has to offer by giving a quick overview of the newest and most interesting pages and content of the database.

From there you can browse directly to a specific structure, a company profile, the biography of one of those famous engineers or read about the most interesting new products and case studies. Just click on the teaser tile and you will be taken directly to the page containing the information.

The main sections of Structurae, which are Structures, Companies, Products & Services and Persons, are still available through the navigation bar at the top of every page.

New structures page for Structurae

New Structure for "Structures and Large-Scale Projects"

The most favorite section of Structurae on structures and large-scale projects from around the world hast received a complete overhaul in terms of how the structures are categorized. You can now reach the main categories "Bridges & Viaducts", "Buildings", "Dams", "Towers & Masts" and "Tunnels" right away from the main page.

We've also added the main categories "Infrastructure projects" containing e.g. all the large-scale projects needed for transportation (airports, motorways, railway lines, etc.) or utilities (aqueducts, wind farms, etc.), and "Urban planning" for inner-city projects going beyond the scale of individual structures.

Within "Bridges & Viaducts" for example you can now find all the bridges contained in the database in a single area. You can browse here by longitudinal system (arch, bridge, cable-stay, suspension, etc.), the type of communication lines bridges carry (roads, rail, canals, pedestrian, etc.) or bridge erection methods. The other categories are arranged in a similar fashion.

Improved Structure and Project Search

As we re-arranged how structures are categorized we also had to change the search function for structures. The search form in the structures section now adapts to the category that you have chosen so that it is now possible to search only within the buildings or tunnel categories. It is now possible to search by combining specific structure types: e.g. suspension bridges used by pedestrians, girder bridges that were launched incrementally, sports venues with membrane structures, or arch dams used to produce electricity. There are plenty of ways to combine the filter options for your search.

Send us your Feedback!

We hope that the improvements we've made and described here will significantly enhance your experience while using Structurae. If at any point you find that something is not working as you think it should, or if you would like to suggestion functions or features that aren't available yet, do not hesitate to send us your feedback by mail at njanberg@structurae.de.
